Graduate Fellowships

Caltech graduate students are the scientists and engineers of the future—and the present. They accelerate research projects every day, enliven our community with new ideas, and inspire faculty mentors as well as other students to pursue novel approaches. Caltech’s ability to advance discovery depends upon recruiting the most promising and creative graduate scholars from all backgrounds.

Our vision

Caltech’s long-term goal is to support all graduate students throughout their entire graduate careers. This will ensure that students can focus on their research, education, and future instead of their funding.

Full fellowship support for every graduate student will:

  • provide Caltech with a clear competitive advantage in recruiting extraordinary students as well as faculty
  • permit students to align with advisers independent of the vicissitudes of federal funding
  • give students and faculty increased flexibility and freedom to pursue creative ideas
  • help students and their faculty mentors move high-potential investigations forward faster

Reaching our goal

Raising funds for endowed graduate fellowships is one of our highest priorities. Thanks to the Gordon and Betty Moore Graduate Fellowship Match, gifts in the Break Through campaign will be magnified. The match provides $1 for every $2 invested in endowment for graduate fellowships unrestricted by field.
