Preparing for Earthquakes with ShakeAlert

On July 30, the U.S. Geological Survey announced approximately $4 million in awards to Caltech, UC Berkeley, the University of Washington and the University of Oregon, for the expansion and improvement of the ShakeAlert system.

Moore Foundation Awards $6 Million for Research Leading to Earthquake Early Warning System

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation has awarded $6 million to Caltech, UC Berkeley, and University of Washington, Seattle, to create a prototype earthquake early warning system for the Pacific Coast of the United States.

Caltech Receives $10 Million in Gifts to Help Launch New Terrestrial Hazard Center

Caltech has established the Terrestrial Hazard Observation and Reporting Center (THOR), funded by $6.7 million from Foster and Coco Stanback, and $3.35 million from the Gordon and Betty Moore matching program.
